Packaged drinking water racket busted

Last Updated 19 January 2012, 19:34 IST

If you thought packaged drinking water stands for quality, think again.

A raid conducted by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) East Division laid bare the reality of these companies. A racket ran a factory of ‘packaged drinking water’ behind Rasheedi Masjid at Govindapura in Nagawara.

The factory did not even have a proper purifier machine and was filling cans with tap water in an utterly unhygienic condition. The team that swooped down on the factory was flabbergasted to see refilling taking place right above an open drain with sewage flowing through it.

Next to the ‘packaging unit’ was a toilet and none of the cans were clean. The BBMP team seized the water cans, drum and ‘water filter’ from the location. The action was taken following complaints from the local residents.
