Dell Q2 net down 23% to $472 m

Revenues declined to $12.76 billion in the reporting quarter from $16.43 billion in the same quarter last fiscal.

Dell’s shipments of consumer PCs surged 17 per cent over the previous year, while revenue in that segment was down 9 per cent to $2.9 billion. Its combined revenue from servers and storage was up 7 per cent sequentially, while its revenue stood at $12.8 billion in the second quarter of financial year 2010, 22 per cent lower than the year-ago quarter.

Further, the firm, said that it hopes to see revenue grow on an annual basis from 2010, driven by increasing demand from China and India. “China appears to be emerging fastest out of the financial crisis,” Dell President (small & medium business) Steve Felice.
Incidentally, the company’s revenue in Asia fell 21 per cent from a year ago in the second quarter.
