Two days after a cab driver raped a 20-year-old Manipuri girl at Dwarka in south-west Delhi, no arrests have been made so far by the Delhi Police in this connection.

“The accused has not been arrested yet. We have got some leads in the case and are hopeful to nab the accused in next 24 hours,” said assistant commissioner of police Samay Singh.

The investigation revealed that the accused hails from Jaipur and a police team has been sent there to nab him, police said.

The incident took place when the victim, a resident of Mahipalpur in south Delhi, who works at a spa at Gurgaon in Haryana, was returning home on Thursday evening. She was looking for a taxi, when a car stopped in front of her.

“The accused offered a lift to the victim near IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon at around 8:45 pm, but instead of taking her to Mahipalpur, he took her to an isolated place in Dwarka and raped her,” a senior police officer said. He fled from there after threatening the girl with dire consequences if she told the police about the incident.

The victim walked towards the road where a passerby approached her for help. After she informed her brother about the incident, he and the police reached the spot and rushed her to a nearby hospital. “There were bruises and injuries on her body. We have registered a case of rape at Dwarka Sector-23 police station,” the officer added.
