Rejuvenation of lakes is 800-year-old:Ramdas

Restoration of lakes has a history of 800 years with saint Siddarama giving a new lease of life to water bodies in the then Nolamba kingdom, said medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas here on Wednesday.

He was speaking after inaugurating Sri Shivayogi Siddarameshwara Jayanti  2012 organised by the department of Kannada and Culture at Kalamandira here.

Siddarama who later went on to become Siddarameshwara believed in workmanship and revived the status of lakes. As and when the centuries passed, works towards rejuvenating lakes have been undertaken. 

Recently when Yeddyurappa was the chief minister, Rs five crore was allocated to each district for the very purpose.

The minister said that the message of Siddarameshwara for youths to believe in workmanship is still relevant. 

Earlier a rally was taken out from Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple’s premises in Mysore Palace north gate to the programme venue. The rally formed cultural troupes of types adding colour to the event.

Sri Immadi Siddarameshwara Mahaswamiji of Sri Jagadguru Siddarameshwara Mahasamsthan, Bhovi Gurupeeth, Bagalkot, Sri Trinetra Mahanta Shivayogi Swamiji of Baby Mutt and Sri Somanatha Swamiji of Adhichunchanagiri branch mutt, Mysore, MLA Tanveer Sait, litterateur H C Shantaveeraiah and others were present.
