A teenager was arrested from Vikas Puri in west Delhi for involvement in two cases of motor vehicle theft and snatching, police said on Sunday.

Akash Kumar, 19, a Nihal Vihar resident, was arrested on January 26 soon after he and his associate Sunny snatched a mobile phone, said additional commissioner of police (west) V Renganathan.

“Sunny, however, managed to flee with the snatched mobile phone,” Renganathan added.

It was found that the motorcycle which the accused were riding was stolen from Nihal Vihar area, police said. “Akash also used to drive the stolen motorcycle while Sunny used to snatch mobile phones,” Renganathan said.

Akash told police that his father is a history-sheeter at Nihal Vihar police station and he started stealing vehicles and snatching to meet his personal expenses.

“Prior to this, Akash was involved in another motor vehicle theft case and had been apprehended in incidents of mobile snatching.”
