With big names from the celebrity circuit in the City and outside expected to converge for the occasion, the hotel and the City police didn’t want to take any chances. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Srinivas said security has been stepped up in and around the hotel. Additional forces were deployed. The police would closely monitor the situation and quiz suspicious people, he told Deccan Herald.
Family affair
On Saturday, the families of both Akshata and her fiance Rishi Sunak performed the "Devara Samaradhane" to seek the blessings of God for the couple at Chamaraja Kalyana Mantapa near Jayanagar South End Circle. The event was attended only by close family friends and relatives. A simple but elegant floral banner which read, "Akshata weds Rishi” greeted the guests. It was purely a family affair where a Yajna was performed and lunch served thereafter.
Dressed in a simple attire, Akshata’s mother Sudha Murty received the guests at the entrance of the hall. Narayana Murthy remained busy inside. Akshata, draped in a designer pink saree, left along with her father while the groom was dressed in a cream Kurta Pyjama. The guests and the family remained tight lipped about the details of Saturday's event. The entire marriage hall was under thick but concealed security cover with the heavy presence of policemen in Mufti. The police department took extra care to avoid any unpleasant incident.
This three-day long high-profile marriage had commenced on Friday with Biocon CEO Kiran Mazumdar Shaw hosting the Mehendi ceremony at her Hosur Road said sources. Many dignitaries including Azim Premji, his wife Jasmine Premji, Montek Singh Ahluwalia’s wife Ishar Ahluwalia and son Pawan Ahluwalia, Srinivas Kulkarni and his wife, Nandan C Nilekani and Rohini Nilekani, Kris Gopalakrishnan and his wife Sudha, Mohandas Pai and Kusum Pai attended the function.
