How many of you loved rocking on the wooden Chennapatna horses when you were little?

Once you get older it’s difficult to sit on these horses! But, wait, you can make small mobiles of miniature horses to remind you of the great times you had in kindergarten.

What you need:

A piece of thin thermocole (6”X4”)
Bright coloured felt or poster paper (6”X4”) – 2 pieces
Scrap of coloured felt in contrasting colours (2”X2”)  – 2 pieces

 Scissors
 Sharp blade
 Pencil
 Wool
 A compass
 Sequins
 Fevicol
 A thin cord

Copy the template on the thermocole sheet. Cut on the outer edge. Take the help of an adult to cut between the feet and the rocker with the blade.
Place the thermocole horse on the felt and trace the outline. Reverse the horse and trace the outline on the second sheet.

Cut out, glue the felt paper to either side of the thermocole horse. Cut out the saddle shape on the contrasting coloured felt (both pieces) and glue in place. Let it dry thoroughly.

Use the compass to make a hole in the forehead and rump of the horse. Cut about 5-6 pieces of wool about 3 inches in length. Cut an extra piece about 4 inches in length. Insert the longer piece of wool in the hole in the forehead of the horse and tie the bundle of three inch pieces together to form the mane.

Cut 5 inch long strands of wool and tie to form the tail of the horse. Stick two dark coloured sequins to form the eyes of the horse. Use some sequins to decorate the saddle (both sides). Make two more holes on either side of the saddle and insert the cord. Tie the cord as shown. Now, go ahead and dangle your mobile horse wherever you want!
