Jamia Millia Islamia is holding an exhibition and a commemoration ceremony to pay homage to late Zakir Hussain, former President and vice-chancellor of the university, on his 115th birth anniversary.

The exhibition will be on from February 8 to 14. It will showcase some rare documents. “Our university’s Premchand Archives and Literary Centre has curated an exhibition on Hussain’s life.

All the memorabilia will come from our archives. Husain's photos of that time, books written by him and which were sent to him, letters and other communications will be on display,” said, media coordinator of the university. “There is a letter written to him by Mahatma Gandhi, that letter will be showcased. Other such documents which are still not public will be displayed,” a university official said.

The exhibition “Dr Zakir Hussain: The Man and His Mission” will be inaugurated by Najeeb Jung, vice-chancellor of the university. Before the inauguration, a commemoration ceremony will be held at his mausoleum on the Jamia Campus. Dignitaries like Salman Khurshid are expected.

Hussain was VC of Jamia Millia Islamia for 22 years (1926-48). He left Jamia in 1948 and joined Aligarh Muslim University as its VC. He went on to become the governor of Bihar, Vice President and President of India.
