Hunt for mastermind intensifies in Falak case

Last Updated 09 February 2012, 20:04 IST

Delhi Police are currently on the hunt for the mastermind behind a human trafficking and prostitution racket which involved the 14-year-old girl who brought  two-year-old battered baby Falak to the AIIMS trauma centre last month.

The revelation came after Rana Kumar Gupta, 28, of Badarpur, and Rahul, 26, of Mohammadpur, were sent to judicial custody after being produced at the Saket District Court on Thursday. The duo was arrested on Monday by the Special Cell.

“Rana and Rahul were involved in a racket active in several states of the country. During sustained interrogation, they have revealed crucial information about their gang. Based on the information, we have identified a couple more people and are currently trying to trace them,” said Ajay Choudhary, additional commissioner of police (south-east).

Rana and Rahul, along with Rana’s second wife Aarti, 25, and Raj Kumar alias Dilshad, 28, had pushed the minor girl into flesh trade in the national capital.

“We are questioning all the accused in the case for more information over the matter. The kingpin of the gang is yet to be arrested,” Choudhary added.

Police had earlier arrested Aarti from Munirka following interrogation of Pooja and her husband Sandeep Pandey, who had been forcing the 14-year-old girl to marry an old man. Pooja had told police that she had handed over the girl to Aarti in November last year. Pooja and Aarti had met when they were neighbours in Govindpuri, south Delhi.

Police are also looking for Raj Kumar, who had left Falak with the minor girl in January before heading to Mumbai for the treatment of his physically-challenged son. The case is being handled by the Sangar Vihar police station.
