There is good news for the sugarcane growers of the district as the MySugar factory administration has decided to disburse the pending amount for the sugarcane that was supplied for the year 2011-12, from Wednesday.

The dues amounting to Rs 20 crore to Rs 25 crore is pending since November last which will be disbursed in phases, said MySugar chairman Nagarajappa.

The factory, in the current season has crushed 3.62 lakh tonne sugarcane and produced 3.28 lakh quintal of sugar. As approval for marketing the same was not available, around 2.70 lakh quintal sugar is left in the godowns, he explained. But still, the factory will be remitting the amount to the farmers and it will begin from Wednesday, he said.

Earlier, the farmers had staged a protest in front of MySugar factory condemning the delay in fixing the cane price. The farmers alleged that the final price for the current season has not been fixed and Rs 2,000 was fixed on a temporary basis.

Moreover, the pending amount of Rs 100 per ton has not yet been disbursed.

The protest was staged by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha district unit and Hasiru Sene and the members pointed out the assurance of the factory administration to disburse the amount by January 15, at a meeting held in deputy commissioner’s office.

They added that the farmers are the worst affected and are not able to involve in agricultural activities.

District unit president Konasale Narasaraju, leaders V Ashok, taluk unit president Javaregowda and others were present.
