<p>A wild elephant trampled a worker to death at a plantation in Halasur of Alur taluk Tuesday morning. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The victim, Subbaiah, 62, from Virajpet in Kodagu, was working as ‘writer’ (accountant) in the plantation belonging to Gopal for the past 18 years. <br /><br />At 8.30 am, he was on his way to take attendance of the workers when the elephant emerged out of a bush, tossed him in the air and trampled him to death. The elephant also attacked Neelamma, another worker. <br /><br />Subbaiah sustained injuries on his leg and abdomen. He died while being shifted to a hospital near Kanadalli. Neelamma was treated at the government hospital in Hassan. On receiving the information, legislator H K Kumaraswamy and Deputy Conservator of Forests Pallavi Akurati visited Subbaiah’s family and handed over a cheque for Rs two lakh as ex-gratia to his wife and two daughters. <br /><br />They also promised to give a compensation of Rs three lakh soon.</p>
