‘Lasya Kavya’

Grand : ‘Lasya Kavya’The next edition of the discussion series, ‘Dance DISCourse’ will be held on February 29, 6.30 pm. It will have bharatanatyam exponent Alarmel Valli, on screen and on stage. There will also be a screening of a full-length film titled, ‘Lasya Kavya — The world of Alarmel Valli’ on the life and art of the dancer, directed by Sankalp Meshram. After the screening of the film, the dance icon will be on stage to interact with Ashish Khokar.


ICCR Bangalore, in collaboration with Department of Kannada and Culture, is presenting Chitrangada, a confluence of kathakali, kalarippyattu and odissi on February 24 at 6.30 pm. This is a research production by Probal Gupta.

Fine moves

Kavya Shanmugam, who is a disciple of Geethalakshmi, will present a dance recital as part of the Kittappa Pillai Dance Festival 2012 on February 17, between 5.45 pm and 7 pm, at Padmini Rao Parampara Art and Culture RD Centre, CKA Layout, Banashankari 3rd Stage. She will be accompanied by Geethalakshmi on nattuvangam, Chennakeshava on vocal, Purushotham on mridangam and H S Venugopal on flute.


Rasika Academy of Performing Arts will present the bharatanatyam rangapravesha  of Ranjana T N, a disciple of Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran, on February

‘The Interview’

Rage, Mumbai, will present three plays from its recently concluded festival in Mumbai, ‘Writers' Bloc’, at the Ranga Shankara this month. The plays will be performed from February 17 to 19. ‘Spunk’ will be staged on February 17, 7.30 pm; ‘Pereira’s Bakery on 76 Chapel Road’ will be staged on February 18 (3.30 pm and 7.30 pm) and ‘Mahua’ on February 19 (3.30 pm and 7.30 pm).

‘Common Man...’

Yours Truly Theatre will present an interactive musical theatre production called ‘Common Man Ver 2.0’ on February 19, 6.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, opposite Ravindra Kalashethra, J C Road. The production is in ‘complete the story theatre style’, where the audience can suggest an ending for the play.

Watch suggestions being enacted on stage by the actors along with music, lights, all improvised on the spot. It is scripted by Nandini Rao and directed by Ranji David and Nandini Rao. ‘Japan Habba’

The Indo-Japanese cultural extravaganza ‘Japan Habba 2012’ will be held at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College campus, Bangalore University, Palace Road on February 19, 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Jewellery show

An exhibition of ‘Gaia’ handcrafted jewellery by Usha Shah, will be on display at Vermilion House on February 17 and 18, 10.30 am to 7 pm. Each piece is created using the old heritage of craftsmanship and handwork, combining gold with rare and beautiful stones, antique glass, and trading beads from all over the world.

Memorial concert

Hindustani Sangeeta Kalakara Mandali and Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs are presenting the ‘Smt Leela Hegde Memorial Concert’ on February 18, 6 pm. Kshetra Sankeertan is a series of monthly classical concerts conducted in various temples.

Each concert will comprise popular kritis and songs on the deity of that particular temple.
