The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday ordered notice to the State Home Department and Director General and Inspector General of Police on a petition seeking action against police officers who allegedly secured jobs by furnishing false caste certificates.

Karnataka Valimiki Mahasabha, in its petition, had stated that an investigation by Civil Rights Enforcement Cell found that some officers furnished false caste certificates during recruitment, and recommended action against them.

It had approached the Court claiming that no action had been taken on the investigation report.

Forest land encroachment

The High Court has ordered notices to Anil Lad, Lok Sabha member and his brother Ashok Lad on a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging encroachment of reserve forest land in Sandur.

K N Somashekhar, an RTI activist, had approached the court alleging that the MP and his brother encroached upon 20-odd acres of reserve forest land adjacent to their 3.65 acres of land.

The petitioner claimed that a resort - Amazing Valley Resort - and Kollur Mookambika Waters Sports were functioning in the backwaters of Narihalla dam near Sandur without necessary permission. He had  sought direction to initiate criminal action against the brothers and the officials who permitted the activity.
