Following the attack on an Israeli embassy car in the Capital, students from Iran are hopeful that friendly relations with India will continue.

Rejecting allegations made by Israel that Iran is behind the attack, Parvez Nayyari, an Iranian student pursuing a PhD in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, said, “The Indian government is handling the case responsibly. We know that India values its friendly relations with Iran.”

Parvez, however, criticised a section of the Indian media, which according to him took the line of Israel.

‘Misleading reports’ “I saw reports in some newspapers, which almost toed the line of Israel and blamed Iran for the attack. The Indian media should at least wait for the official statement on who carried out the attack. I am happy with the stand of the Indian government,” Parvez said.

Masoud Imani Kalersaris, another Iranian student at JNU, echoed the same sentiment. “There is a kind of controversy to spoil relations between India and Iran. However, I am sure that this relation will not be disturbed. Relations between the two countries go beyond economic and political boundaries as we share a lot in our cultural history,” Masoud told Deccan Herald.

Refusing to pinpoint Iran for the Israeli car bomb blast, India on Wednesday said it has no evidence about any individual, entity, organisation and country involved in the attack.

‘Not scared’

Parvez said students from his country are not scared of the reported apprehensions that they can come under the scanner of investigators after Monday’s attack.

According to him, Iranian students concentrate only in academic matters in India.“We are not scared of such reports. Iranian students have just one objective in India, and that is to pursue education,” he said.
