Smuggling racket busted, 2 held

Two men have been arrested in south Delhi for possessing controlled substances worth Rs 1 crore which were to be illegally smuggled to Myanmar and China and sold at rave parties, police said on Saturday.

Deepak Rastogi, 29, a resident of Palam Village, and Gurbachan Singh, 36, of R K Puram, were held on Friday evening and 150 kilograms of ephedrine and 18,000 strips each, 10 tablets of pseudoephedrine were recovered from their possession.

“The consignment was to be sent to Myanmar and China via Manipur for preparing ecstasy and other narcotic drugs,” said Arun Kampani, deputy commissioner of police (special cell).

The recovered substances were found positive for ephedrine, a psychotropic substance, under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. A case is registered under sections 9A, 22 and 25A of the NDPS Act.
