Woman found dead

A 24-year-old woman, who suffered from HIV, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in south Delhi’s Aaya Nagar, police said on Thursday.

The matter was reported to police at around 6 pm on Wednesday evening. When a team from Fatehpur Beri police station reached the spot, they found the victim lying dead in a room.

The victim’s husband and in-laws claim she committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at around 6 pm on Wednesday evening.

Her parents, however, allege that she was killed over unfulfilled dowry demands.
“Due to the clashing statements given by the two families a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) level enquiry has been ordered into the matter,” a senior police official said.

The deceased was married to an electrician from the past three years. He works at a leading private hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana

The husband told police his brother saw the victim hanging from the fan and informed him and other family members. “He then took the body down and called a local doctor, who declared her dead,” the official added.

The mother-in-law of the woman said she was infected with HIV since November 2009, eight months after the marriage.

“We do not know how she got infected with the virus. She did not enjoy her married life due this,” she added.

Tortured for dowry
On the other hand, the victim’s father, alleges that his daughter was regularly tortured for dowry.

“She had told us that her in-laws, particularly her sister-in-law, used to torture her. They have killed and hung her from the ceiling fan to show it was a case of suicide,” he added.

Her body was sent for a post-mortem at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the exact cause of death will known ascertained after the report comes out.
