'Shabd' to celebrate creativity in students

Shabd, the two-day annual literary festival of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, is set to begin today, finds out DHNS

Creative writing, composing poems, debates, spell bee, pictionary, photography, painting, quiz and Jam. If you were just thinking, these are just dominated by arts colleges, then you definitely got it wrong.

‘Shabd’, the annual literary festival of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), is set to be held on February 25 and 26 at the college premises to bring out the best in students in a plethora of events. Conducted by the editorial board of the college, the two-day event is aimed at celebrating creativity in students.

Adding value to the event is a photography workshop by Sumukh Bharadwaj, who is known for street photography. The workshop is free and is touted to be Bharadwaj’s first.

Believing that ‘a thing of beauty is joy forever’, .Shabd is also organising a painting competition, to encourage creativity make its mark on the canvas with wonderful hues and shades.

With the best of literary and intellectual crowd from all colleges participating in the events, the debating event allows participants to ‘stab at each other with words’. With the intention of discussing relevant issues in the society, Shabd offers a platform for people with excellent oratory skills to prove their mettle.

Quizzing buffs can give it a shot at ‘Libido Quiz’ conducted by Nickil Somanna and Ashwini. Their questions will surprise and enthrall you. Well, this one is for the bright minds. Others could take part too, to have some “ooh. Why didn’t I think of that?” and “Oh, really?” moments.

The fun event called “Jest a minute” is one opportunity to make a complete fool of yourself or emerge a hero. You need witty remarks and good to excellent verbal skills to be able to battle your way out of ridiculous conversations. The JAM would be conducted by Anant Rao, a tattooed-head banger, who also moonlights as a stand up comedian.
