A 28-year-old man was arrested from west Delhi with a huge cache of arms and ammunition, police said on Saturday.

Dalbir Singh, resident of Hari Nagar in west Delhi, was arrested following a tip-off, said Additional Commissioner of Police (west) V Renganathan said.

“The accused is a high profile robber, who has been involved in cases of robbery, illegal arms supply and auto-lifting,” Renganathan said. Police have recovered two pistols, a revolver, 72 live cartridges, 30 fired cartridges, and five gun magazines from him.

The sleuths said they received a tip-off at around 9.30 pm. They were told that some criminals in a Honda City car would come to Hari Nagar area with huge amount of illegal arms and ammunition.

Hari Nagar area was then cordoned off with the help of quick reaction team vans and emergency response vehicles. At about 10.30 pm a silver Honda City came to the spot and after noticing the police picket, the driver of the car tried to escape. Police officials overpowered him and on search found a loaded pistol with him.

“Documents of the car were checked and on investigation it was found that the number plate on the car was of a two wheeler. On further interrogation, it was found that the car was stolen from Rajender Nagar,” Renganathan said.

Dalbir Singh told police that he is actively involved in crime since 2009.

“He was previously arrested in a case of robbery in 2009 at Rajouri Garden. Since then he has been involved in cases of auto-lifting, robberies and illegal arms supply in Delhi,” added Renganathan.

Police said further investigation is on to trace his clients and unearth the source of arms and ammunition supply.
