National College, Basavangudi is one of the high-profile colleges in this City. It boasts of former students like actors Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh Aravind, cricketer Anil Kumble and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.

“If you want to shine in any field, it is here that you have be,’’ says Deepak N, a fifth semester BSc student, who is into dramatics and singing. “The college gives us lot of support, both financially and morally, for the students to participate in arts and culture. That’s how we have won so many prizes.” The Principal’s room is filled with shields, trophies and mementos  won by its students.

The college provides equal importance to academics also. “Every year, the college conducts science forum, where eminent scientists from across India come here to teach,” says Adithya M Kashi, a third semester science student.

There is a question mark on the blackboards of the college with a tagline saying, “Without questioning, don’t accept any thing.” Says Naresh, a second year journalism student, “That mark asks us what we want to achieve.’’ On the college grounds here, political rallies are conducted regularly, which in turn hamper the studies. Tents and filth are dumped here for days together.

But the students who pass out fromhere feel so homely at the college, that even after the course is completed, they come back.

Prajeesh P Pankaj, who passed out last year, sums it up when he says, “I am still connected with the college. I don’t wish to go out of this college. This was everything for me,’’ he said, when he was spotted at the college canteen.
