The launch of the Kannada version of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) — Kannadada Kotyadhipati — was announced by Suvarana TV recently. The channel claimed that it would be the biggest show on Kannada television.

Meant for the common people, the show will offer a prize money of Rs one crore and will be hosted by actor Puneeth Rajkumar. The format of Kannadada Kotyadhipati will remain the same as Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Excited to host the show, Puneeth Rajkumar, who will be making his debut as an anchor, said that the show as has given him an opportunity to get closer to his fans. “The format of the show is unique as this gives the common people an opportunity to use their knowledge and change their lives,” said Puneeth.

Kannadada Kotyadhipati is produced by BIG Synergy, the production house of KBC. BIG Synergy director Anita Basu observed that the show is basically for the aam aadmi. “It is a show for common man. We are looking for someone who has knowledge and can take home a lot of money.”

Anup Chandrashekharan, business head of Suvarna TV, said, KBC resonates among the family audience. The show comprises the entertainment quotient as well as the intelligence quotient. The Star Network originally brought KBC to India and made it the most popular reality show in the country. We at Suvarna have the best ingredients to make Kannadada Kotiyadhipati a successful show.”

As the show does not limit itself to the intelligentsia of the society, it will gather plenty of audience. Over 18 lakh SMSes have been received as part of the registration procedure.

The people involved in the production of the show are Kannadigas. Out of lakhs of participants, only 1,600 people managed to get through the auditions. The first season of Kannada version of KBC has 80 episodes.

The questions will be Karnataka centric. Eighty per cent of the questions will be based on Karnataka, 15 per cent will based on national and international topics and the remaining five per cent will be focussed on South India. The programme will air March 12 onwards at 8 pm.
