Unidentified men struck at the house of a Supreme Court lawyer in Barakhamba Road area of New Delhi and decamped with jewellery worth over Rs 40 lakh and around Rs 8 lakh cash, police said on Tuesday.
The incident was reported from the house of Manjit Singh on Abul Fazal Road in Bengali Market on Monday.
Almirah broken
“The complainant claims that when he woke up at around 6.30 am on Monday it was found that his wife’s almirah -- kept in their children’s room-- was broken,” a senior police officer said.
Its locked drawer was also broken and jewellery and cash were missing,” he added.
Singh says that jewellery worth over Rs 40 lakh were kept in the almirah.
It included six pairs gold kara, 25 pairs of gold earrings, six sets of gold necklace with earrings, four sets of earrings with gold pendant and 15 gold rings. All the jewellery was diamond studded.
The lawyer claims that Rs 7 lakh cash is also missing from the drawer of the almirah.
The robbers also took away Rs 50,000 cash from a drawer in his office and Rs 22,000 from the drawer of his stenographer.
A case has been registered against unknown persons at Barakhamba Road for house breaking and theft.
