JOIN USA sour protest this, by disabled
Members of disabled welfare association grabbed the attention by staging a unique protest by eating neem leaves, symbolically showing that the state government had completely neglected the physically challenged in the state budget announced recently, in Mandya on Thursday.
Beginning their protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Mandya, they alleged that both the Centre and the state have completely ignored the welfare of the physically challenged. Hence the budget that was announced during Ugadi is sure to bring bitterness to them for the whole year, the agitators lamented.
Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane joint secretary C Kumari, Yashwant and others who led the protest said the government should at least consider the demands of the disabled. Their demands included that their monthly pension be hiked to Rs 1,000, action plan for providing education, jobs for them, reservation at government and other institutions for providing job opportunities and others.
They later submitted a memorandum at the DC’s office.
