Apparently perturbed over the fast unto death by a UP official who is protesting against the government's inaction against corrupt elements, the authorities tried to get him admitted to a psychiatric facility by calling him mentally unstable.

The doctors at the facility, however, refused to admit him saying he was fine. He was then admitted to a general hospital in Lucknow late Monday night.

Rinku Singh Rahi, a social welfare officer at Muzzafarnagar district, went on an indefinite fast on Monday morning after his demand for furnishing information on his Right to  Information (RTI) application and taking action against the mafia went unattended.

Rahi had refused to bow to the diktats of the mafia and dared to take a stand against corrupt practices.

The goons tried to kill him for exposing corruption in the department in the district.
Attacked. He was showered with bullets last year, suffered serious injuries and almost lost an eye in the attack. Later, he was also shunted out.

“I was sent to an insignificant place after the attack. I would have been killed as they still threatened me with dire consequences but the government has not taken any action against them till date’’, Singh said.

“Every year Rs 35 to 40 crore is swindled in connivance with the babus in the department and those who oppose are either shunted out or intimidated,” he said.

Official sources said his blood pressure had gone down sharply  and he had to be forcibly admitted to the hospital.
