Farmers stage dharna in front of Bescom office

The protesters said that the sub-station was established in the year 2004 following struggles by farmers. Over the course of time, the demand for power increased as the number of borewells also went up in the villages fed by the sub-station. Instead of making alternative arrangements for the villages in other taluks, Bescom is supplying power from the Avane sub-station, thus contributing for the rift between farmers and creating a law and order problem.

The protest staged by Raitha Hitarakshana Vedike was led by general secretary of State Kisan Sabha, M Gopal.

CPI secretary Sangasandra Ramachandra, taluk secretary Radhakrishna, Gram Panchayat member V Venkatesh and others took part in the demonstration.
