EC paid no heed to our complaints, says BJP

Last Updated 12 April 2012, 20:45 IST

The BJP Delhi Pradesh on Thursday complained that the Election Commission has taken no action on its complaints.

On April 2, the BJP had requested the Election Commission (EC) to rectify some mistakes in the voters’ list and provide it with soft and hard copies of the corrected version.

The next day a complaint was registered with the Election Commission regarding violation of election norms when religious sentiments were allegedly invoked by Congress state president Jai Prakash Agarwal.

No reply

“We did not receive any reply from the Election Commission about the actions taken on our various complaints. Since only a few days are left for the elections, the commission should act swiftly to keep the people’s trust intact,” said a member of BJP advocates cell. The party also lodged a complaint on April 6 regarding the violation of the model code of conduct and indulgence in a criminal offence against supporters of Jai Bhagwan Kaushik, candidate from ward 44, and MLA  Bijender Singh.

Three days later, BJP complained that Delhi Government had violated the poll code by using government sites in the city for election propaganda.

“Election Commission was also requested to let us know about the timings of radio and television advertisements.

“Besides, the convener of advocates cell of Bharatiya Janata Party Delhi Pradesh complained about the contents of the EC’s website as they were found to be incomplete and misleading about the candidates. However, we are yet to hear anything from it,” the member alleged.
