Gram Panchayat chief alleges police atrocity

The police has committed atrocities by resorting to a lathi charge on the residents of Tondala village, who were protesting over water crisis in the village, Aitarasanahalli Grama Panchayat president Vanitha has alleged.

On Friday, two political groups at Gangarasanahalli staged a protest asking for the borewell sinking machine. There was war of words between residents of Manighatta, supported by of legislator G K Venkatashivareddy and residents of Tondala supported by former speaker Ramesh Kumar.

Both the groups wanted to get hold of the borewell sinking machine.

But later both the groups decided to solve the matter through dialogue and withdrew protest.

Sinking borewell

At last residents of Manighatta started sinking borewell in their region. But they could not find water. In this backdrop, residents of Tondala village urged that a borewell be sunk in their village and did not allow the residents of Manighatta to proceed further.

The stir continued even after taluk panchayat officials advised them to end protest.

Two teams of armed Reserve Police personnel were sent to the place and the situation came under control by evening, the police said.
