Poets' meet marks Dinakar Desai's birth centenary

Speaking after offering floral tributes to Desai, poet and columnist H Dundiraj said Dinakar Desai, popularly known as Chutuku Brahma, was not just a limericks’ poet but an all rounder.

“From education to journalism to politics, he worked in various fields. He wrote over 3,000 limericks and hundreds of poems and children’s poems. He contributed a lot to the society through Canara Welfare Trust and educational institutions,” Dundiraj said. “Desai worked for labour unions in his younger days. He started a periodical called Janasevaka. He even tested his fortunes in politics and entered Parliament from Praja Socialist Party,” he added.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat former head Harikrishna Punaroor presided. Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishat President Mahesh R Nayak was present. Hani Sanje, a poets’ meet was held later.
