Wife's suicide drives man to kill self

A man was found hanging from a tree at Adde village near Rajanukunte in Bangalore Rural district on Monday morning. The incident took place hours after his wife allegedly hanged herself at their house on Sunday night.

The dead are Rajanna, a realtor, and his wife Manjula. The couple had a son and daughter.

Quoting their relatives, who lived with them in a joint family, the police said the couple did not have a happy marriage and fought often over petty issues. On Sunday, Manjula said she wanted to go to her parents’ house, but Rajanna asked her to attend a relative’s wedding instead and then go to her parents’ house. Angered by this, Manjula went into her room and locked herself up.

The relatives ignored this as they were used to the couple’s fights. But when Manjula did not come out of her room, one of the relatives knocked on the door and asked her to join them for dinner. When she did not open the door, they broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling, gasping for breath.

They brought her down immediately and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

Upset with his wife’s suicide, Rajanna left the house early in the morning on Monday and allegedly hanged himself from a tree. Passersby noticed the body around 8.30 am and informed the police.

The police found a death note in which he has said he was disappointed with life and no one was responsible for his death.

Lorry mows down boy

A five-year-old boy was killed after a tipper lorry knocked him down in front of his house at Chikkalasandra in KS Layout on Sunday.

Sagar was studying in LKG at a local school. The victim’s father is a mason. Police said the accident took place when Sagar was playing in front of his house. Mahesh, the driver of the lorry, lost control of the vehicle when he suddenly noticed a group of boys playing. He knocked Sagar down, killing him on the spot. Mahesh was arrested.

Chain snatched

An unidentified person snatched the gold chain of a woman on the pretext of asking her for directions on Sunday.

The incident took place on Sunday when, Anasuya, a resident of 1st ‘A’ Cross, Vinayak Layout, Nagarbhavi, was standing in front of her house after dinner.

The suspect stopped his bike in front of her house and dragged her into a conversation on the pretext of asking her an address. While she was showing him the directions, he snatched the chain and fled, Jnanabharathi police said.

Hit and run case

A speeding SUV knocked down a pedestrian at the busy Anil Kumble Circle on Monday evening.

Satish Kumar, 27, a daily wage employee at the BBMP, was crossing the road when the signal turned green. While he was struggling to get to the other side of the road amid heavy traffic, a speeding SUV knocked him down, throwing him about 10 feet across the road. He was immediately rushed to Bowring Hospital. The public chased and intercepted the SUV at the next signal.

A resident of Tannery Road, Satish was allegedly drunk. He is said to have sustained severe head injuries, but is out of danger. Cubbon Park traffic police have registered a case, seized the SUV (KA 51 MA 4492) and detained its driver.

Jail inmate dies

A life convict, Rajesh, 33, serving the sentence for the past eight years died of kidney failure on Sunday late night.

Rajesh died while he was being shifted to the jail hospital.

Sources said Rajesh’s kidneys had failed four years ago and he was undergoing dialysis everyday.

Rajesh, a native of Shimoga, was serving a life sentence for two murders.
