Lakhs of tourists, who throng the country to have a glimpse of the ‘monument of love’, Taj Mahal, in Uttar Pradesh's Agra town, could soon have a lovely view of the same at nights.

“The Uttar Pradesh government, in a bid to encourage tourism in the state, has asked the officials to start working on a project to enable the tourists to have a glimpse of the Taj at nights,” official sources here said on Wednesday.

State chief secretary Javed Usmani said the officials concerned had been asked to prepare a detailed project report within a month. The project envisaged developing Eco-Tourism around Taj.

“Under the Taj Nature Walk, the tourists would be able to view the Taj at nights...an eight-km-long cycling track around the monument of love will also be constructed for the tourists'', Usmani said.

“The project also includes developing a Taj Safari, Mumtaz Mahal Eco Park and boating in the Yamuna river, that flows close to the Taj'', he said while chairing a meeting here.

The cost of the project would be borne by the state government and the Centre. There have been demands from tourists and also tour operators that Taj viewing be allowed at nights.
Security concerns and other difficulties were cited by the officials as the reason for not allowing this. Officials feel that the move would go a long way in providing the much needed boost to tourism in the state.
