JOIN USMP Chaluvarayaswamy criticised the two national parties BJP and Congress for failing to draw attention of the Centre in protecting the state.
Addressing newspersons in Mandya on Thursday, he took to task the elected representatives of the State in the ruling party and the members of parliament and the Congress leaders for not being able to convince the high command on the existing drought situation in the State and seek funds.
The leaders of BJP, who are in the opposition in the parliament too have failed to put forth the problems of the state. The JD(S) party had explained the problems faced by the silk growers in the state, but the BJP had failed to do that, he criticised.
He alleged that the Centre had decreased the tax on raw silk from 30 per cent to five per cent keeping in mind the elections in the West Bengal to keep their vote bank safe. The Centre should at least come forward to set right the things and see to it that the farmers are benefited.
Ridiculing the all party delegation to Centre seeking funds to sort out drought situation in theState, he said getting together all the party leaders is the only achievement as there will be no specific change in the attitude of the Centre.
By the time the Committee reviews the drought and submits a report the monsoon begins. So, the funds should be released first and other procedures may follow later, he opined.
Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee had stated that there is no question of revision of import duty on silk. Announcing package is not sufficient and support price should be announced, he demanded.
He alleged that the ruling party is making our State debtridden. They are fighting among themselves for power and the worst affected are the common people, he blamed.
