Last Updated 07 May 2012, 18:20 IST

The Baiyappanahalli police claimed to have solved the double murder case of a woman and her son, following the arrest of a 27-year-old man.

A police team went to Tamil Nadu and arrested M Tangamani alias Nandu, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Old Baiyappanahalli on the charge of murdering Rani and her son Praveen Kumar, police said. Tangamani has been remanded to judicial custody.

Rani, 30, and Kumar, 10, were found strangulated to death on May 3 at their house at Ambedkar Nagar.

Tangamani told the police that Rani was married to Manjunath. She had two children - Praveen Kumar, 10, and Monisha, 7, - from Manjunath.

She parted ways with Manjunath after five years. Later, she had an affair with him (Tangamani). Rani and Tangamani, though were not married, stayed together for seven years.

Differences cropped up between the couple recently, as Rani allegedly had an affair with another person - Karthik. Tangamani had warned her against this, but to no avail.

He spotted Rani and Karthik in Thiruvannamalai on May 1. He came to Bangalore with an intention of murdering her on May 3.

He came to her house around 4 am and strangulated her to death with a plastic rope. Later, he strangulated Praveen Kumar to death as he had seen Tangamani murdering Rani.
