A CCB special team, formed to check extremist activities in the City, on Monday arrested Syed Abdul Rehman alias Abdur Rehman, 25, from Adugodi over his alleged links with the dreaded Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Rehman, a resident of Tippu Nagar in Chamarajpet, is said to be also involved in motorcycle thefts and robberies. He had served a sentence in Mysore jail for supplying weapons to Akram who used it to commit a murder.

While in jail, Rehman was indoctrinated in jihadi ideology by Fahad, a Pakistani national and member of Al Badr terror outfit, and Afsar of Bangalore. Later, he was introduced to top Lashkar leaders through the phone.

Rehman came out on bail six months ago and had been absconding since. Police sources claim he had direct contacts with top Lashkar leaders and that they had also sent him money to recruit youth for the organisation in Bangalore.

He was also instrumental in some conspiracies hatched by terrorists to create mayhem in the City.

The terror cell handling him had planned to assassinate some of the top leaders of Hindu organisations so as to create a Hindu-Muslim riot in the City, police said, adding that some crucial installations were also on his radar.

Rehman was also a part of the conspiracy to deploy four jihadis from Pakistan to attack the police party and free Fahad while he is being taken to court. Presently, Fahad is lodged in Gulbarga jail.

Rehman was to go to Pakistan shortly to receive arms training, using a fake passport, police claimed.
