Addressing a press meet on Saturday, he said lack of mental peace has become a problem in today’s world. As a result, suicides are on rise. Owing to the decline in moral values, corruption, criminal cases are on rise in the country. A crime free society can be built by providing value education to the children and youth.

Conversion and terrorism are also haunting the district. In spite of the effort by police, judiciary and army, terrorism could not be contained in the district. In this background, there is a need to create an atmosphere by reaching Bhagavad Gita to each and every household. Accordingly, Bhagavad Gita campaign is essential to the society, swamiji added.

He said Bhagavad Gita campaign has been successful in 13 districts of North Karnataka.
Now the campaign will be started in eight districts including Davangere, Chitradurga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Chikmagalur and Shimoga. District committees will be constituted in eight districts. The campaign will be flagged off in the second week of October. The campaign will be held for one month in Kodagu district in the second week of December, he informed.

The seer said the campaign targets at primary and high school students. Bhagavathgeetha will be taught to students for eight days. Later, district -level contest will be held.

To a query on introducing Bhagavad Gita in school curriculam, he said “government has urged to introduce Bhagavathgeetha. However, it will take decision after collecting public opinion.”

Bhagavad Gita is not restricted to any religion. It crosses the barrier of any religion. The time has come to declare it as a national epic, he added.
