Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club has recalled their former coach H Chandrashekar and appointed him as the technical manager on Wednesday, hoping to revive the fortunes of the local outfit who had been relegated from the I-League.

Chandrashekar, who had served HASC as player and coach, replaced coaches M Muralidharan and Thyagarajan. “To revamp the HAL football team, HASC managing committee is nominating Chandrashekar as technical manager of the football team.
Chandrashekar will be responsible for selecting the coach, players and co-ordinators for
the HASC,” said a release from KS Yoganth Murthy, deputy manager (HR)/general secretary HASC.

Chandrashekar took the coaching diploma from NIS in 1983 and a year later he passed the International Football Coaching course in London.

The 55-year-old Chandrashekar, who was the coach when HASC promoted to then National Football League for the first time in 1996-97 after battling it out in the Second Division, will take charge on Thursday. “I received the letter from HAL management today.
I have coached HASC before and have been associated with the club for more than 20 years. My responsibility is to guide the team again to the I-League,” said Chandrasekhar, who coached HASC from 1992 to 2005.

With an eye on reviving the fortunes of the Bangalore side, Chandrashekar plans to rope in FIFA Instructor Vincent Subramanium, who holds an ‘A’ license coaching certificate that is mandatory for coaching an I-League side, and other supporting staff in the coming weeks. “In one or two days, I will be able to finalise my coaching staff,” said Chandrashekar, who is working as the HR Officer with HAL (Aircraft Division, Bangalore).

But the real task for Chandrashekar is to convince the HASC players who are keen to leave the club after Aircraftmen’s failure to stay afloat in the I-League. “I am going to meet the players and discus about the transfer issues. From my part, I will try my best to keep them in the club. We are going to have an all-India trials soon. I am also planning to witness some matches in the Santosh Trophy in Odisha and recruit best talents from there,” revealed Chandrashekar.
