3 held for robbing Rs 20 lakh from Safdarjung Enclave house

Delhi Police have arrested three youths for stealing cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from a house atSafdarjang Enclave in south Delhi.

Manoj Kumar Rawat, 21, Bijender Singh, 25, and Pramod Gupta, 22, were held over a complaint by Monica Maini of Arjun Nagar.

Monica had reported that gold and silver jewellery, silver utensils weighing over eight kilograms, 11 wrist watches, a laptop, foreign currency worth Rs 8 lakh and a camera had been stolen from her house on Tuesday.

A case under sections 457 (lurking house trespass) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Safdarjang
Enclave police station.

“Local enquiry was made and nearby residents and shopkeepers were questioned for clues about any suspicious movement they might have
noticed around Monica’s house,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

During investigation, Girish Sinha, who works with a dental clinic, told police that he had seen three men on a motorcycle in front of the house around 9 pm on Monday.

Girish said two of them went upstairs, while the third man waited on the ground floor to keep a watch.

“He, however, did not take it seriously and thought it to be a routine matter,” Sharma added.

Monica told police that Manoj of Nauroji Nagar used to come to their house on a motorcycle. Manoj was apprehended in  Lajpat Nagar after a tip-off when he was about to get some foreign currency exchanged through a dealer.

“He confessed to his crime and disclosed that his maternal uncle Bijender Singh was also involved, along with Pramod,” Sharma said.

Police then apprehended
Bijender and Pramod from Badarpur and Sangam Vihar  and recovered the stolen


During sustained interrogation, they told police that Manoj knew that Monica planned to go to Mathura toinvest around Rs 4 lakh in areligious project.

“He was also aware that Monica’s brother lives in the US and sends expensive wrist watches and other items to her. He shared this information with Bijender, who inolved his friend Pramod and they committed the burglary,” Sharma added.
