Union Minister for Corporate Affairs M Veerappa Moily said that an employment mela will be organised with the help of the government and the Alva’s Education Trust in Chikkaballapura on July 14 and 15.

Speaking after inaugurating Alva’s Pragathi 2012, a placement drive organised by the Alva’s Education Trust here at Alva’s College campus in Moodbidri on Saturday, he said as many as 12,000 persons were employed during the mela held last year in Chikkaballapura. This year, at least 20,000 persons should get employment in the job fair.

Skill devt

He said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has decided to give skill development a major push in the year 2012-13 and during the 12th five year plan. It has been decided to increase the skill development targets so as to upscale the skill development initiative in a transformational way.

He said the skill training will be imparted to the youth on PPP mode across the country. It has been decided to train five crore youth. A skill development centre will come up in Chikkaballapura. The centre has already been set up at Bangalore and Gulbarga.

India’s strong fundamentals would help the country bounce back to a high growth trajectory by 2020. India should take advantage of its demographic dividend like the US did two centuries ago and to transform India to blossom itself into a country of youth and provide leadership to the world, he opined.

After 2020, India will be number one in the world and will march towards economic prosperity. He called upon the students to remain optimistic in life to achieve success.
Moily said the country will have 200 million graduates by 2020. Skill development will be key for employment generation. “Degree will be just a certificate to get into a profession. However, later the performance of an individual matters.”

He called upon the students to inherit the quality of passion, dedication. Lack of self-confidence and concentration will not help an individual to achieve the target. He said there should be a link between the education and industry requirement.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences former vice-chancellor Dr Ramananda Shetty, former minister Amarnath Shetty were present.

Alva’s Pragathi was attended by 137 companies for recruiting the candidates. As many as 2,360 students registered for the job fair on Saturday. As many as 12,000 had registered online. The job fair will be held on Sunday as well.
