Heavy rain claims 20 lives in UP

Rain accompanied by high speed winds caused havoc, flattening kuchha houses and trees.
At least 20 people, including children, died in rain-related incidents, official sources said here. Five people were killed in Mahamaya Nagar district when their house collapsed in heavy rain late on Friday night, reports said.

Meanwhile, following heavy rain and the discharge of waters from dams in Nepal, major rivers in the state were maintaining a rising trend. The Rapti, Ghaghra and Sharda were rising all along their course, threatening low-lying areas.

The authorities have sounded an alert and have taken all measures to ensure people’s safety,  sources said.
