Yemeni student held for assaulting cop

A Yemeni student allegedly assa- ulted a cop near St John’s Hospital on Monday afternoon after he was flagged down by police for violation of traffic rule.

Mohammed Salah (20), a resident of Tavarekere, Madiwala, was riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet. Adugodi police sub-inspector Narasimaiah and constable
Gangadharaiah stopped Salah and questioned him.

Salah is said to have abused the cops when they asked him to pay fine. He refused to accept the receipt and threatened the cops.

When Gangadharaiah took away the two-wheeler key, Salah allegedly snatched his keys and twisted his left arm. Gangadharaiah sustained a fracture and collapsed on the spot.

They immediately alerted the police station and Salah was arrested. Gangadharaiah was rushed to a hospital. Salah, who was produced before the court, has been remanded in judicial custody till May 29.

Money lender arrested

Lakshman, 42, was arrested by Jayanagar police for running the money-lending business without licence.

A resident of Gavipuram, Guttahalli, Lakshman was arrested after a raid on ‘State Dry Cleaners,’ run by him on DVG Road. The police seized blank cheques, promissory notes, a mobile phone and Rs 2,500 in cash.

Lakshman used to charge exorbitant interest from his borrowers, police said.
