Two men claiming to be “relatives of Gautam Gambhir” brutally beat up a cab driver after the taxi grazed their car at Karol Bagh early Wednesday, police said.

Victim Jaspal Singh was driving to central Delhi when his car slightly grazed the offenders’ vehicle on Pusa Road near Metro pillar number 97 around 1 am. The two men got out of their car, pulled out the cab driver and thrashed him mercilessly.

When police intervened, one of them claimed to be cousin of Gautam Gambhir, and the other said, “My son Gambhir is very powerful”. The assailants told the cops that the law cannot reach out to them as they are “very influential and well-connected people”, and left the scene scot-free.

Jaspal was rushed to Fortis Jessa Ram Hospital where he is recuperating. A culpable homicide case has been registered.

With the summer at its peak, road rage incidents are on the up in the city. A week ago, three judges who were travelling by a car were beaten up by a motorcyclist when the car grazed the two-wheeler. A couple of days earlier, a policeman became the victim of road rage when he was thrashed.
