Cong seeks CBI probe into Palike scam

Last Updated 24 May 2012, 20:02 IST

Alleging embezzlement of Rs 20,000 crore of public money in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Congress leader G Parameshwara on Thursday demanded the government to order a CBI probe into the matter.

Addressing a protest rally, organised by Bangalore City and Urban Congress Committees at Freedom Park, Parameshwara said there were allegations of Congress corporators too being part of many scams in BBMP. If they turned out to be true, the party would not protect such leaders, he added.

“When we demanded a CBI probe, they said even Congress leaders are involved in scams. If that is the case, the party will not protect any such leader,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Siddaramaiah, said it was unfortunate that BBMP had to borrow Rs 1,000 crore from Hudco by pledging the Utility Building and the Jayanagar shopping complex. “But for the JnNURM funds coming from the Centre, the government would have been in trouble.

There is absolutely no development, but BBMP continues to make heavy borrowings,” he said.
