A fire broke out at garment factory at Gandhi Nagar in east Delhi on Sunday afternoon. No one was injured in the blaze, police said.
It took firemen over four-and-a-half-hour to douse the flames, which was first reported at 2 pm from Mahila Colony in Gandhi Nagar.
“At least 25 fire trucks were pressed into service and the situation was brought under control by 6.40 pm. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” a fire official said.
The fire started from the front side of building and quickly spread towards the rear.
“Usually, over 50 labourers work in the factory. But only 10 were inside the building on Sunday when the incident happened,” a police official said.
After preliminary investigations, a short-circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the incident. Locals alleged that the fire could have turned into a major catastrophe had it spread to nearby houses.
