A 28-year-old American national has been arrested from Indira Gandhi International  Airport for carrying 23 live cartridges in his check-in baggage, police said on Sunday.

Jeffry Jinnin Worn, a resident of Lowndes county in Georgia, had arrived in Delhi on a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight and was scheduled to board a Turkish Airlines connecting flight to Istanbul when he was held on Saturday morning.

“The DIAL Baggage Screening Unit at airport’s Terminal 3 had detected some suspicious item during screening of one of the registered baggages. Airport officials later confirmed that the bag belonged to Jeffry,” a senior police official said.

When the officials later opened it in his presence, they recovered 23 live cartridges and ‘Hornady 45 Auto+P’ was written on them.

Police confirmed that Jeffry had neither declared at the airline’s check-in counter that he was possessing cartridges in his check-in luggage nor could he produce any valid documents which would explain their presence in his luggage.

“The passenger accepted that he brought the cartridges from the United States. However, he was not holding valid license for the same,” the official added.

He was arrested and a case was registered at IGI Airport police station under section 25 of the Arms Act.
