Finally Delhi got its first Blogathon- a festival of bloggers, by bloggers and for bloggers only. More than 100 popular bloggers of the Capital, and some from Bangalore, Punjab and Lucknow as well, got together at a joint in Saket to share tips on blog writing, network, meet potential advertisers and celebrate the passion of blogging per se.

The event was organised by three young bloggers of Delhi who have just set up a new network of bloggers called ‘Blogathon India.’ Akshita Jain - a 23-year old Economics graduate from Hansraj College realised that she was so much into internet and social networking that she would rather make a career out of that than be an economist.
Today, she is a social media manager with a prominent company in Delhi and also runs two very popular blogs on lifestyle and fashion - cupidspeaks.com and colorofic.in.

The former is in collaboration with another avid blogger and her partner in Blogathon India - Ankul Barar. Barar, like Akshita, was studying a completely different discipline - hotel management, when he fell in love with blogging and now authros multiple blogs.
With some help from another passionate blogger Karan Bhujbal they set up blogathonindia.com just 20 days back and now it ranks 11000 among websites worldwide in terms of visitors’ traffic, according to Amazon.com.

They floated the idea of a meet-up of bloggers in Delhi, and in no time more than 200 bloggers signed up. Akshita says, “Youngsters are taking to voicing their opinions through blogging in a big way. Delhi itself has thousands of them writing on myriad subjects like social issues, gadgets and gizmos, everyday issues, and some are really good. However, bloggers function like a community and no blogger, however good, can function in isolation. We need to appreciate each others’ work, join in their followers’ list and give useful feedback. Only then is the network strengthened. So we met up.”

Ankul adds, “It’s especially important for new bloggers as they almost always need help from the experienced ones on style of writing, technical aspects, monetising the blog that is garnering advertisements etc. So we thought this should be a good way to exchange ideas.”
