Two persons have been arrested for cheating a doctor when she was seeking a bank loan of Rs 3 lakh, police said on Thursday.

Subhash Chander alias Rattan and Vakeel Ansari were held over a complaint by Amrita Kumari of Dilshad Garden.

“She had applied for a Rs 3 lakh personal loan at HDFC Bank’s Green Park branch, but her loan application was rejected. On April 12, she received a telephone call from one Ratan who introduced himself as senior manager of HDFC Bank at Rajouri Garden,” said Pramod Kumar Kushwah, additional deputy commissioner of police (south).

She told him about the rejection of her loan application upon which he assured that he will get her loan file cleared.

He contacted her and told that he would send someone for collection of documents.

On May 1, a man named Ajay from HDFC Bank came and collected all the relevant documents required for loan.

After that, Ratan called her saying her loan would be sanctioned but her account balance should be above Rs 60,000 and she had to sign some forms and give cheques for security purpose.

Later, the same caller informed that her loan of Rs 2.87 lakh has been sanctioned. On May 16, he came and got her signatures on the form and collected cheques duly signed by her. The accused forged two cheques and deposited them in his own account which was opened on a fake identity and withdrew Rs 66,000 on May 18.

During interrogation, it was found that Subhash alias Rattan was previously employed with Kotak Mahindra and ICICI Banks and his job was to collect documents and cheques from the loan seekers and verify them.

Vakil Ansari and Sandeep of Meerut also worked with him. They all were fired from the job in August, 2011 and after that they formed a gang and started cheating loan seekers.

They have confessed to cheating many people in the similar way. But generally the amount was less than Rs 20,000 and they were never arrested as the victims did not report the matter to police.
