Army Chief promises a new start

Last Updated 01 June 2012, 19:33 IST

Bikram Singh, the new Army Chief, struck the right cord by assuring the nation that ''nothing would be brushed under the carpet'' and the ''past will be left behind.''

Singh told reporters that his Chief of Staff has sent a letter to three corps, to investigate the allegation made by a major in letters to the Chief of Army Staff.

According to the major, three civilians were killed in a fake encounter case, carried out by an intelligence unit under the three Corps in March 2010. "A car is driven by seeing ahead through the windscreen and not through the rear view mirror. My issue is that whatever has happened should be left behind and drive looking from the windscreen in taking the army ahead," said Singh.

Singh refused to get into any sort of controversy. He said that he has handled civil military relations earlier too.
