BJP candidate D H Shankaramurthy has misused funds as a MLC representing the graduates of South-West constituency, alleged Congress candidate S P Dinesh who is contesting from South-West graduates constituency.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, he said “Shankaramurthy has given funds to the schools run by the RSS. The MLC funds should have been used for the welfare of the government schools and colleges. However, in Shimoga alone, a sum of Rs 25 lakh has been used for laying a road leading to the youth club belonging to his son,” he said and added that he has not done anything for the welfare of the graduates.

Dinesh expressed his confidence in winning the election. He promised of  constructing graduates Bhavan in every district after winning the election. The Bhavan will be used for imparting free training to the unemployed graduates, in writing competitive examinations.

There is a direct fight between the Congress and the BJP in the South-West constituency.
Dinesh said there are 57,000 registered graduates in South-West graduates constituency. The highest number of graduate voters are in Shimoga district.

Hosoor Ramesh Joyappa, contesting from South-West teachers constituency said “the BJP has not done anything for the welfare of the teachers. There was a huge disparity between the pay scales of pre-university and degree college teachers.

The PU teachers are paid less when compared to their counterparts in South India. The only achievement of the BJP government is closing down the government schools with less than five students. The government has been engaged in saffronisation of education and thus sowing the seeds of hatredness among the students,” he said.

He said there are 18,888 voters in South West Teachers’ constituency.

Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee President Ramanath Rai said that the state government had failed to provide unemployment allowance to the unemployed graduates.

The BJP had promised of the allowance in its election manifesto. The Centre has been releasing funds for implementing Sarva Sahiksha Abhiyan, mid-day meals. The state government has not done anything significant in the field of education. It was the Congress which introduced CET and helped poor students to become engineers and doctors in Karnataka, he added.
