Rickshaw puller nabbed in Bihar for killing elderly person

 A rickshaw puller has been arrested for killing an elderly man and then robbing his belongings at Kirti Nagar in west Delhi, police said Monday.

Accused Mahadev Jha, 24, who is from Munger in Bihar, was arrested in his native place and then brought to Delhi.

“Jha is involved in the murder of 75-year-old Vilayat Chand Setia of Ramesh Nagar on September 28, 2011,” said additional deputy commissioner of police (west) Devender Arya.

On September 28, police received a call about a murder and found Satia strangled with a nylon rope. On the complaint of Rajesh Sodhi, son-in-law of the victim, a case a case of murder was filed at Kirti Nagar police station.

Police interrogated local people and an information led them that Jha may be involved involved in the murder case.

“We found that the accused fled from Ramesh Nagar where he was a rickshaw puller and went to Munger. A team conducted raids at Ithari village at Munger, Bihar and nabbed Mahadev,” said Arya.

Jha told police that Satia hired his rickshaw on September 27 and went to a wine shop and then he dropped Satia at his home. Later in the night, Jha went to Satia’s house to steal. “While stealing, Satia got up and saw him. He strangled Satia and took away one gold chain, gold ring, and Rs 18,000.

The accused was produced in the court of Munger and three days transit remand was taken. Later he was produced before a metropolitan magistrate at Tis Hazari Court where he has been sent to three-day police custody. “Efforts are on for the recovery of robbed articles,” said Arya.

Jha is as habitual criminal, who in involved in five cases of theft, burglary and Arms Act. During day, Jha used to work as rickshaw puller to identify his target and he used to strike at his targets at night.
