Gas cylinder blast injures five

Five persons, including two Delhi Fire Service officials, suffered burn injuries when a cooking gas cylinder leak sparked a major fire at a house in Nai Sarak on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place when a woman lit a matchstick in her kitchen around 4:30 am on Saturday.

“The blaze immediately engulfed the entire house due to which the woman and two of her relatives were trapped inside,” a police official said.

Around 18 fire tenders were pressed into service. Firefighters managed to rescue them and rushed the trio to Lok Nayak Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

“The situation at the house was brought under control by 6 am. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” a fire official said, adding that two of their men also suffered burn injuries in the incident.

Inferno at Sadar Bazar

A major fire broke out at a transport godown in Sadar Bazar of north Delhi.
According to the fire department, the blaze started at the basement of the multi-storey building around 4:45 am on Saturday.

Around 28 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control after eight hours.

No casualties were reported, but goods and property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short-circuit, but it is yet to be ascertained.
