Polling peaceful in DK

Mangalore registers lowest polling percentage at 26.87

The polling to South-West Graduates and Teachers constituency was peaceful in Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday.

While 53.31 per cent polling was registered for graduates constituency, 57.47 per cent was registered for teachers’ constituency in the district.

As many as 6,322 graduates had exercised their franchise while 2,817 teachers had cast their votes in the district. This includes 3,732 male graduates and 2,590 female graduates.

As many as 1,588 male teachers and 1,229 female teachers had exercised their franchise.

There were a total number of 11,859 voters in the graduates’ constituency and 4,902 voters in the teachers’ constituency.

Teachers constituency

There were 14 polling booths for teachers constituency in Dakshina Kannada district. The lowest polling has been registered at University College, Hampankatta, with 26.87 per cent polling. There were 748 voters in the booth limits, of which, 201 voters have cast their votes. This includes 102 male teachers and 99 female teachers.

Graduates constituency

For the graduates’ constituency, there were 20 polling stations in the district. The polling booth at taluk office, Sullia (East wing) registered 72.53 per cent polling in the district. Out of 830 graduates, 602 graduates had exercised their franchise.

Nada office, Panja has registered 67.51 per cent polling. Backward classes and minorities office in Puttur had registered 66.47 per cent polling. Out of 683 voters, 454 had cast their votes. Revenue Inspectors office, Venur, has registered 65.86 per cent polling.

The lowest polling has been registered at University College, Hampankatta with 28.10 per cent polling. Out of the 943 voters, only 265 voters have exercised their franchise.
Several graduates and teachers who had visited the polling booth had to return without casting vote, as their names were not in the list of voters.

Out of 34 polling booths in Dakshina Kannada, as many as 32 were sensistive booths. Elaborate security arrangement was made at such polling booths.

 MLA U T Khader and Capt Ganesh Karnik exercised their franchise at Mangalore. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda had exercised his franchise for graduates constituency at Puttur. The counting will be held at JSS College in Mysore on June 13.

Loses chance to vote

There was a surprise waiting for Ariyadka GP Member Sudhakar Naik when he went to exercise his franchise at Puttur polling booth. By the time he reached the booth, some one else had already exercised Naik’s vote. Left with no option, he had to return without exercising his franchise.
