Celebrating works of Gulzar

LIVING LEGEND

The eagerly awaited second season of the four day festival Mera Kuch Samaan… Celebrating Gulzar is coming this season to capture the hearts of theatre lovers.

Rightly termed as a salute to the Oscar winning, legendary filmmaker, lyricist, screenwriter, film producer and poet, the festival brings together theatre and poetry in an unusual fashion.

Acclaimed theatre personalities Lubna Salim and Yashpal Sharma joined Gulzar and director Salim Arif at IHC recently, to announce the festival of plays directed by Arif based on the works of Gulzar.

The fest, to be held between June 20-23 will include plays Kharaashein, Sunte Ho and Arre!! O’ Henry and a special evening titled Rubaru, where the legend himself will read his own poetry, discuss the plays and the art of theatre with Arif.

While Kharaashein is a collation of Gulzar’s poems and stories and based on the theme of communal riots since Partition, four short stories and several poems are woven together into a stage presentation. Sunte Ho is a reflection on the status of women and how they have been treated by men down the ages.

Arre!! O’Henry is an adaptation of American writer O Henry’s four short stories by Gulzar. “Last year Delhi and and others from across the country gave a warm and heartfelt welcome to Mera Kuch Samaan. We are hoping that the second season will be received as enthusiastically.”

“All my writings and compositions,” said Gulzar, “hold a special place in my heart but Mera Kuch Samaan is the luggage of memories and emotions that have been highlighted through these words. People may talk about time being the best healer but over the years I have seen that there are some scars that can never be healed.”

The festival and its plays will feature leading actors of theatre and film like Atul Kulkarni, Yashpal Sharma and Lubna Salim along with Mahesh Bansal, Mahendra Goel, Deepak Gupta and Anshuman Pandey who will enact the plays and hopefully do justice to the work and words of Gulzar.

The festival will be held in Kamani and is being presented by Chandgi Ram Real Estate in association with Assotech, Echelon Institute of Technology and organised by Spandan Communications.
